Meep

“Easy-to-access virtual parental controls from any computer or mobile device give you minimum hassle, and your kids, maximum fun. Observe games played, websites visited and keywords searched without ever touching your child’s device.” – Oregon Scientific

According to a recent FTC Mobile Apps for Kids report, within the last 3 ½ years smartphone apps have increased from a mere 600 to nearly 1 million in the Apple App store and Android Marketplace combined. The report also reveals a somewhat obvious fact, as well, which is “young children and teens are increasingly embracing smartphone technology for entertainment and educational purposes. ”

Although the official reports aren’t out on children’s use of tablets yet, all it really takes is for one to step into any mall, school or public gathering area with an open eye and and attentive ear. You should quickly notice that kids, just like adults, are looking to get their hands on tablets these days. The problem, though, is that it seems many parents are very reluctant to let their children use a $500 tablet so that they can accidentally destroy it. Well, if $149 sounds a bit better for the latest Android tablet made especially designed for children, then you’re in luck.

Meep Details

Most children like computers and ice cream. That’s also why they’ll probably love the Meep. It’s an Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwhich) tablet that has 512mb of RAM, 4 GB of internal storage, HDMI video output, built-in Wi-Fi, a front-facing camera and even a nice set of parental control features built-in.

The Meep, by Oregon Scientific, is fairly unique. What separates it from the small mass of Android tablets for children that are already out there is that there are add-ons available that are specially designed for it.

Perhaps, once the excitement has sort of fled from your child’s thrill with their first new Android device, you can then decide to choose from a steering wheel, keyboard, drum set or one of the other various accessories for the Meep. It surely makes a great way to extend the life of the device, and, with the holidays approaching and the most common gift-giving season right around the corner, the Meep appears to be a wonderful option that even has parental controls to help ensure safe use at all times.
